Welcome to Modern Horror
Writing 39B
39B explores the genre of modern horror. Students must discuss the basics of rhetoric and investigate how the viewers are affected and moved by a grim tale.

Hello writing 39B! I am Kathy, born and raised in Santa Ana, where nights never seem lonely due to the bombarding wailing from the city's streets. For years now, I have been observant and indulged in my lively city allowing me to be more aware of my environment as well as possessing the ability to read people's body language and recognize one's well-being. I instantly knew my pride and joy was healing those around me in high school, so it wasn't shocking that I chose Psychology as my major. This is my second year at UCI and amongst being a full-time student, I am also upholding two occupations in hospitality. Continuously, I have realized that my fate lies in caring for others.
After middle school, I saw that my interest in dark sadistic novels grew astoundingly which prompted me to join such a compelling course like writing 39B. My fixation on indulging in twisted fictional books led to the emergence of a book club in my family where gruesome tales are featured and discussed at a monthly themed meeting.
I hope to read more frightening stories in this course and learn rhetorical techniques to make my writing enticing and horrifying to readers. I am however very worried that my experiences from my past English classes have not prepared me for this specific writing style, but I know that listening to my peers and revising it to the audience's liking will overcome this distress. Overall, I hope to study the various techniques in modern horror to successfully construct an eerie and suspenseful script.

Education
Currently, I am a second-year student at UCI majoring in Psychology. I hope to fulfill a doctoral degree in the near future to establish my own practice and produce a positive impact on mental health. Ever since I took a Psychology course in high school, my infatuation with social behavior grew stronger. I became obsessed with excessively worrying about the well-being of others and analyzing their behaviors. Soon, it became customary for me to contribute advice whilst listening to my friend's and family's distress. Overall, earning a Ph.D. in Psychology would allow me to professionally do what I originally cherished and admired.
